Framed plate Wall Street: what binds us

The forty art photographs comprising the Wall Street series paint, through successive strokes, a unique synoptic picture of the universal graphic language tattooed on the walls of the world.

A visual ellipse abolishing space and time, each diptych—an imperceptible assemblage of two of these walls taken from two distinct cities—traces an invisible yet resolute link between people. From Tel Aviv to Tokyo, from Berlin to La Rochelle, from Lisbon to Santo Domingo, from New York to Brussels…

Visual and graphic correspondences, tagged along the streets and framed by Sylvie Barco's gaze, emerge. A third wall appears, imprinted with the force of obviousness, all that binds us together. From one end of the wall to the other, from one end of the world to the other.

Saturated with graffiti and symbols, echoing each other in colours and shapes that seem to converse. These "strips" of contiguous walls, photographed in 16:9 format ^, unfold like a long tracking shot.

"Like sequences captured across the streets of countries, the strips of walls could be added to each other to make a single film of tags and stories to unfold," the photographer explains.

Placed at the forefront of the image as if to accentuate the ephemeral nature of the composition, the urban elements, accidental finds or poetic nuggets that seem to have escaped from the scene, are all punctuations highlighting, rhythmicating or extending these universal visual dialogues.

Wall Street is the combination of two walls from two different places that reveals a third and unique wall.
